NEW DELHI: The next-generation of iPhones will get the Force Touch technology that has made its debut with Apple Watch, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The report, citing supply chain sources, says that the introduction of Force Touch display technology will be among the major changes in the next iPhone models. The technology allows Apple Watch to distinguish between a light tap and a harder press.
"The new technology could spawn new applications for the phones, such as a piano-playing app that would make different sounds when touched lightly or more heavily," the report said.
Apple, however, will not be the first company to use such a touchscreen technology, as BlackBerry had unveiled smartphones with touchscreens that could detect light and hard taps under its Torch series. However, the feature was panned widely by major reviewers for not adding any actual functionality.
Apple is said to start production of components of upcoming iPhones in May.

Previous leaks suggest that Apple will double the RAM in the next generation of iPhones, from 1GB to 2GB. It is also said that it will have dual-lens camera that can take DSLR-quality photos, along with the preloaded Apple SIM card.
